Note: Home and away designation just reminds me that I need to pay the referees and bring game cards when we are the home team.

Practice information - Spring 2012

Summary:

Practices: Tuesday Cook Field #3 5:15-6:15

First Practice: Feb 7

Details:

Practice day/time

Practices will be held on Tuesdays at Cook field #3 (the south field). Map

We had a 6 to 3 vote in favor of Tuesdays. If Tuesdays will not work for you at all, please contact me and we can see what our options are.

For now, we will start at 5:15 because it starts to get dark fairly early. I will be there by 5:00 to set up, so feel free to drop by early. Once we pass daylight savings on March 11, we may decide to move practice back a bit as I know that sometimes it can be hard to get there so early, but we will decide collectively.

While practices don't officially start until Feb 13th, we can start practicing as early as February 7. If we can do that, we can get an extra practice in before the first game. It may also help as I know many people have commitments on February 14th for Valentine's day.

Parking

Please be sure to park on the school side of the street and not in front of any houses. If the school side is full, you can park in the school parking lot and cut through the portable buildings. There are some neighbors who get upset when people park in front of their houses and it is easiest to just not park there. This is especially important for game days. All of our games should be at Cook.

What to bring

  • Wear comfortable clothes
  • Cleats preferred, but can practice in sneakers
  • Shin guards required. I will try to have a spare in case someone forgets.
  • Size 4 ball
  • Water – at least 16 oz, more is better

Conducting practice

Parents are welcome to watch practice or you can leave and come back

I am hoping at least one or two parents will volunteer to be regular assistants. Please email me if you are interested.

Practice will usually consist of the following:

  • 10 minutes – warmup (stretch, jog, footwork)
  • 10 minutes – skill game (sharks v minnows, windows)
  • 15 minutes – skill drills (passing, shooting, defending)
  • 15 minutes – scrimmage
  • 10 minutes – water breaks and discussion

Some dates of note:

  • Saturday Feb 11 – Field set up and lining Details
  • Monday Feb 20 – Game schedules will be available
  • Saturday Feb 25 – First game
  • Saturday March 10 & 17 – No games due to spring break
  • Sunday March 25 – Pictures
  • – I know that the Girl Scout Camp Champions trip is March 24-25. In the past, we have had to reschedule our game that week and pictures due to numerous players going to the campout.
  • Saturday May 5 – Last game
  • Saturday May 12 – CAYSA tournament – depending on our standings, we may be invited so leave this date open
